Everyone is so upset about the rising cost of gas that I fear the American people will "sell" the Alaskan wilderness for something as meaningless as a temporary abatement in the rising price of gas. Firstly, gas is still cheap in America versus what the rest of the world pays for a gallon. Secondly, how myopic is it to trade so much unspoilt wilderness that would otherwise continue to be around for centuries, something I don't think we can currently accurately assess the value of, for such short-term benefit, a little bit of extra cash in our pockets now?
